Mission:
- The goal of the Rubber Division is to reliably
supply critical, industrial raw material to discerning clients on a
competitive fixed-price, guaranteed delivery basis.

History:
- An earlier rendition, Balfour Maclaine, used to
actively trade rubber in New York during the 1960's to 1987.
- This recently established rubber entity --
started April 1, 2000 -- will follow in its predecessor's footsteps.
The Rubber Division is an active dealer member of the Rubber Trade
Association of North America (the successor to the RTA of New York).
M.O.:
- The Rubber Division sources product from the
South East Asia (Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia) and West Africa,
and utilizes all available logistical expertise to arrange timely and
reliable delivery of product to end users. Such delivery can be
contracted for either on an FOB basis, whether Far East or ex. dock
and/or ex. warehouse in the U.S.A., or on a delivered basis to the
ultimate consumers' plant/factory.
- To assist clients in their timely purchasing
decisions, the Rubber Division provides the requisite market
intelligence and risk management skills inherent in an experienced
rubber dealer's arsenal. Furthermore, the Rubber Division will
endeavor to provide mutually agreeable special payment terms where
warranted. Due to the Manager's past experience in living in Singapore
and numerous travels throughout the region, a very good relationship
is maintained with all the major market participants, both on the
producing and consuming side of the business at origin.
The
Rubber Division sells to a wide range of consumers, from global,
multinational tire companies, to mid-sized and smaller domestic
consumers, whether purchasing volume (tire) rubber grades or more
limited, specialized requirements.
Experience:
- Niels Jacobsen, the Division manager,
entered Commodity Trading with east Asiatic Co., in Copenhagen,
Denmark in 1972, in the vegetable oil and oilseed business, and
subsequently traded rice at the New York branch. He then moved to
rubber in 1979 with the sister company United Baltic Corp. in New
York. After a 3 year stint with East Asiatic Co. (Singapore) branch,
Niels Jacobsen returned to UBC New York in 1983 where he became Vice
President in 1987. At UBC New York, later renamed Andrew Weir
Commodities, Niels Jacobsen was appointed President in 1992. AWC's
owners, Andrew Weir & Co., London decided to exit non-core
commodity business in 1999, at which time Niels Jacobsen supervised
the liquidation/transfer of Weir's rubber business to an existing
commodity trading house expanding into rubber, during the latter half
of 1999, prior to joining BALMAC in March 2000. Jacobsen was President
of the Rubber Trade Association of North America during 1997-98, and
currently continues as a Board Member.
